Burnishing
Burnishing results from rolling or impinging the surface of a part with a media that is as hard or harder than the part being finished. This has the effect of brightening or polishing the part, increasing its reflectivity, and in most cases also helps to seal any porosity on the surface of the part. This has the added benefits of hardening the surface and reducing the oxidation or corrosion of the part.
These processes require robust machine designs, specific, non-abrasive (steel, Porcelain, or Granite) and specialized compounds (acidic or alkaline with high lubricity) to accomplish the desired result.
